1 - Environmental Management Instruments
The projects in this line of research aim to develop and use environmental management instruments in order to support environmental planning and management as well as their insertion into urban public policies for local, regional, national and international sustainable development.

2 - Geotechnics, Waste and Sustainable Materials
The projects in this line of research include the advanced characterization of urban solid waste, the use of natural and synthetic materials in geotechnics and infrastructure, the development, application and evaluation of new materials and the monitoring of geotechnical works and sanitary landfills based on laboratory and field evaluations.

3 - Environmental Monitoring Systems
The projects and studies in this line of research aim to characterize and quantify the harmful effects of polluting substances and microorganisms on terrestrial, aquatic and atmospheric ecosystems, diagnosing the environmental situation using different analytical techniques, mapping and analyzing spatial and temporal data, addressing environmental problems and proposing solutions to impacts resulting from human actions.

4 - Environmental Treatment Systems
The projects in this line of research aim to study the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater; the treatment of water supplies; the degradation of environmental pollutants via bioremediation with fungi or advanced oxidative processes, the removal of pollutants by adsorption, the use of sludge; rural and urban sanitation and water reuse.
